As residents gear up for the election coming on Saturday in Osun State, the police have declared restriction of movement to vehicles and humans during the duration of the election.

The announcement came on Thursday by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the poll, Johnson Kokumo. The DIG made the announcement in a meeting with accredited election observer groups, non-governmental organizations, and the press.

According to him, movements would be restricted from 12 midnight to 6 p.m. on the same day.

He affirmed that essential workers, election observers, and the media would be allowed to operate freely.

He added that the police had made proper security arrangements for the three senatorial districts, the 332 wards, and the 3,763 polling units.

In his word:

We have officers on the ground, air deployment with helicopters and have also deployed police marine on the waterways.

Kokumo vowed that the police were ready to arrest those who seek to take laws into their hands or violate the electoral act.

Vote buying and selling is an electoral offense. We will arrest the culprits and process them through the court.”
