An Assistant Superintendent of Police was killed on Wednesday by some gunmen in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State. The identity of the Policeman is yet to be disclosed.
However, the sketchy detail known about the Policeman is that he is attached to the Rivers State Policy Command. He was ambushed and murdered when returning from work on that fateful Wednesday.
The deceased officer was said to have sustained injuries from gunshots but died in the hospital.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, gave the confirmation, and according to her, investigations are underway to uncover those who perpetrated the act.
The Police Spokesperson said that the state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, ordered an investigation into the killing. He hopes that the investigation will unveil the circumstances leading to the attack and bring the perpetrators to book.
In her words:
He was returning to his house after work around 9 pm or so when they ambush him. We will ensure they are fished out.
Already the commissioner of police has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to book.
However, as at press time, no group has claimed responsibility for the dastardly attack.
